6 myths and misinformation about vacations, camping and travel - why they're not true
Travel today is full of information. And that's the problem. All it takes is one viral post, a few shares on Facebook, or a video on TikTok, and one person's opinion suddenly becomes "universal truth." People then judge vacations, campsites, or entire destinations based on someone else's experience, which is taken out of context - different season, different budget, different expectations.
A typical example is the claim that campsites by the sea are cheaper than in the Czech Republic. Has anyone been to Croatia in May, paid the minimum and what was the result? "They're robbing us in the Czech Republic." But they don't consider the high season, surcharges, equipment, services, or the fact that prices can vary by hundreds of percent depending on the location and date.
It is similar with safety of tourist destinations, the quality of Czech campsites, the idea that there is no point in going camping without a caravan, or that going abroad is automatically a better choice than a domestic holiday. These myths are repeated over and over again - and yet the reality is much more varied.
In this article, we have therefore put aside emotions, prejudices and internet abbreviations. We have looked at 6 most common myths and misinformation about vacations, camping and travel and analyzed them the way they deserve: with perspective, facts, and real context.
Because a good vacation doesn't start with viral status, but with the right decision.

Myth 3: Campsites are only for the poor, tents and low-cost vacations
This myth stems from an outdated idea of camping that dates back decades. For some in the public, "camping" is still automatically perceived as a cheap vacation without comfort or services.
What is often said
"The campsite is for tents and caravans only."
"If you want comfort, you have to go to a hotel."
"If it's a campsite, it has to be cheap."
These opinions appear mainly among people who have not been to the campsite for many years or who evaluate it only by its name, not by its actual offer.

"They want a lot of money and offer almost nothing."
"For those prices, it's a shame for us."
These opinions are often spread in discussions and comments, where a general picture of the entire market is created from individual experiences.

Such campsites usually only offer:
- camping sites
- basic social facilities

It arises mainly because people evaluate the entire market based on their experience with the cheapest campsites and overlook the difference between the basic camping version and modern recreational areas that also provide camping sites.

Myth 5: Camping abroad is always better than here
This myth stems from the simple idea that going abroad automatically means higher quality. Many travelers tend to rate camping “outdoors” positively simply because it’s a different country and a different experience.
What is often said
"They are simply further along abroad than here."
"Foreign camps are completely different."
"We can't match that here."
These statements often appear in discussions of people who have one positive experience abroad and then automatically apply it to all camping outside the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
How is it really?
Camping abroad is not automatically better than ours. Just like in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, there are top, average and below-average campsites abroad. The difference often lies not in the quality itself, but in expectations and perspectives of travelers.

Discussion
We only bought a caravan last year 😊 and I have to say that on forums and in groups people stuffed a bunch of "truths" into our heads, like it's always cheaper and better abroad or that here it's a disaster for socialism. We also believed it for a while, because it sounds convincing when ten people repeat it in a row. But then we started driving and finding out things ourselves - and quite often it was exactly the style of "one woman said".
Specifically: we were in Austria (near St. Anton am Arlberg) on a stellplatz/camping site and the price for a stellplatz for 2 people was easily €65/night + fees and electricity. And honestly – it was nice there, but no miracles happened 😅. More like "a nice meadow and camp", no extra program, no activities.
Then we chose Vranovská beach and for about 900 CZK / night for the entire campsite we had a restaurant, facilities, the children were not bored and overall it seemed like a much better choice 👍. So for us, a clear conclusion – until you try it yourself, you are just repeating what you heard somewhere 😉.
